“Fences” poster board

Today in multicultural literature, we begun working on a “Fences” poster board group project that involves identifying and stating that characterization of a particular character in “Fences.” In my group, we are working on the characterization of Lyons, Troy’s first son. I am doing well.

“Fences” Act one, Scene four

Today in Multicultural Literature, we continued to read the play “Fences” and discuss the characterization of characters, such as Troy, in the play. Reading through scene four, we learned more about Troy’s background and character that shapes him into the person he is in the play. At the end of the scene, Cory is denied the opportunity to play college football due to the actions of his father. I am doing good.

“Fences” Act One, Scene Two and Three

Today in Multicultural Literature, we continued to read “Fences” and interpret the various societal roles present in the play. After finishing reading scene two and three of act one, we answered questions relating to what we read. I am doing good.

Newsela

Today in Multicultural Literature, I worked on a Newsela assignment during the absence of the teacher. The Newsela article covered the pressing issue of Google searches relating to symptoms people have. The article advised readers to consult a doctor and not google if they have any symptoms present in their body. I am doing good.

12th Grade Assessment Task

Today in multicultural literature we took a diagnostic test that had a passage and six questions to answer. The passage was interesting since it involved the authors love for books and decision to become a writer. I am doing good.

“Fences” Act One

Today in Multicultural Literature we started reading the play “Fences” by August Wilson and learned about connotation and denotation. After reading act one of the play, I’ve learned a little about the life of African Americans in the North in the late 1950s. For instance, African Americans in the North were treated poorly compared to white people when concerning job opportunities. I am doing okay.

Senior year vocabulary reflection.

The first six weeks of my senior year have been amorphous . I can't grasp the idea that I am a senior in high school and have to start planning about my future. Besides knowing that I want to attend college, the rest of my planned future is ambiguous . Every new year of school is met with  animosity  towards it, especially since the return to school marks the end of summer vacation. Nevertheless, I attended school and had to return to the cycle of managing work and schoolwork. The first few weeks of school, the classrooms look aesthetic  in the sense that there isn't any trash on the floor. Once the weeks pass, the school becomes dirty again due to amoral  people being adventitious .      Once I attended schools for a few weeks, my affinity  for school returns. I have been trying hard in my classes and have been receiving good test scores in all of my classes. Ive been able to reconnect with my friends from last year which furt...

"Fences" introduction

Today in Multicultural Literature, we answered introduction questions regarding the play "Fences." In class, we discussed these questions and determined the purpose, use, and consequences of fences, metaphorically and in the real world. The questions got me to think about my neighborhood and the types of fences that are present, mostly chain-link and wooden. I am doing fine.

Reflective conclusion of societal gender roles.

This exercise of reading Judy Brady's "I Want a Wife" and listing out gender roles relating to the husband all helped to enforce the idea of the imbalance found in most traditional/stereotypical gender roles for the wife and husband. Husband and wife relationships should have a balance where the wife and the husband don't feel exhausted by the roles assigned to them solely based on their gender.

Gender Roles

Today in class we discussed and defined gender roles. After attending class, I've been able to identify and learn gender roles in my family and culture. I also heard the different perspectives of gender roles in different people's cultures. I liked how we learned about this topic through a PowerPoint presentation. I am doing okay.
