Prompt: Write about a fear you have overcome.

I used to dread the thought of roller coasters, but I decided to overcome my fear by riding Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia. As the coaster climbed its towering 200-foot hill, my heart pounded, and I questioned my bravery. But when we plunged down that first drop, the fear vanished, replaced by exhilaration and freedom. By the time the ride ended, I felt invincible, knowing I'd left my fear behind on those twisting, thrilling tracks.

Prompt: Write about an unforgettable meal.

Despite the fact that I live in a Mexican household, my most unforgettable meal would have to be my first plate of Orange Chicken with Lo Mein. Having eaten Mexican food throughout most of life makes other cuisines, such as American food, feel more special than what most other people would consider it to be. However, something about Chinese food has always felt special compared to any other cuisine. I enjoy how spice and sweetness are incorporated into the dish.

Prompt: Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

I can’t stop thinking about what my life will be like in the following year. I will be turning 18 and attending university, hopefully. Once I graduate in spring, I will have greater independence and less restrictions from my parents as they expect me to move out of the house as soon as I turn 18 in July. In a way, I will have more time to do what I desire. On the other hand, grater responsibilities will be given to me as I’m on my own when it comes to my education after this year. It is slightly frightening to think about in all honesty.  Today in Multicultural Literature, we started class by learning about multiple choice test-taking strategies. The main strategy we learned was process of elimination where you determine that three answers are completely wrong, one answer is slightly correct, and another answer is the most correct. We put this strategy to practice by taking a pop quiz about The Color Purple . Afterwards, we continued reading through the novel. I am doing fine...

Prompt: Describe a situation where you had to find strength despite feeling weak.

When I was younger, my parents would take me to weekly soccer practices at my Elementary School. Even though I enjoy watching soccer and playing soccer, I was never very good at playing soccer compared to the other kids at practice. Whenever I attended soccer practices, I would try to find strength and attempt to play decently among the other kids. Today, I still play soccer occasionally with my friends and I'm still not the best at soccer, but I at least have improved from Elementary School.  Today in Multicultural Literature, we started reading a new novel called The Color Purple  by Alice Walker. From reading it for the first time, I can gather that the novel consists of several journal entries, written to God, from Celie, the narrator and protagonist of the novel. The novel immediately caught me off guard on the first few journal entries as it describes what has been occurring in Celie's life. The first journal entries reveal the sexual abuse Celie has received from ...

Prompt: Write about a conversation that changed you.

The first time I heard about my parents upbringing was the first conversation that significantly changed me. Before my parents told me about their upbringing I hadn’t given it much thought considering I was still in Elementary School. Once I reached Middle School was the first time my parents mentioned their upbringing to me in detail. Hearing about the differences of living in rural Mexico compared to the United States made me realize how fortunate I am to be living here.  Today in Multicultural Literature we worked on familiarizing ourselves with new vocabulary terms for the college bound. Initially, I was only familiar with a few of the words seen in the vocabulary, but now i’m beginning to learn the rest of the vocabulary words. Learning new vocabulary words helps to make people’s writing more convoluted. I am doing good.
